Home Mortgage Disclosure Act
The Home Mortgage Disclosure Act, enacted by Congress in 1975, legislates the reporting of loan data by lending institutions. This includes geographic distribution of applications and loans: race, sex, ethnicity, and income of borrowers and applicants, and information about loan denials and approvals. This data is reported by the lending institutions on the first of March for applications and loans of the previous year. Lenders need to have the information available within 30 days of the request but not earlier than March 31st, if requested. To receive a copy of these data send a written request to:
